Etiquette at the live table: the rules nobody prints
A live-dealer game puts you at a shared table with a real person running it and other players watching the same stream. The software enforces the game rules; the social rules are up to you. This guide covers the ones that actually come up.
The chat box: a public room, not a private vent
Dealers at studios such as Evolution and Playtech read the chat aloud and reply on camera, which means everything you type is effectively said out loud to the whole table. Keep it to what you would say in a physical casino with the pit boss standing nearby. Greetings, table talk and questions about the game are welcome; most dealers genuinely enjoy a table that talks.
Two things get chat privileges removed quickly: abuse and blame. Dealers do not control the shuffle, the wheel or your results — the licensed operator's certified equipment does. Swearing at a dealer over a lost hand is the fastest route to a mute, and repeat offenders can find their casino account reviewed under the operator's terms of use.
Pace: the timer is there for everyone
Live blackjack gives each seat a decision window, typically shown as a shrinking bar of a few seconds. Taking your full window occasionally is fine. Taking it on every hand while you check your phone stalls seven other seats. If you want unhurried decisions, single-player formats — Speed Blackjack's solo betting spots, or first-person RNG tables with a "go live" button — remove the audience entirely.
In roulette, bets close when the dealer calls no more bets and the software locks the layout. Late clicks are simply void; there is no discretion involved, so there is nothing to argue about. The polite response to a missed spin is to wait out the next one.
Questions: ask early, ask plainly
Every live studio expects beginners, and dealers answer procedural questions all shift — what a side bet pays, why a blackjack push returned your stake, how the racetrack section of the roulette layout works. Ask before you bet rather than during the payout, and you will get a fuller answer. What dealers cannot do is advise you how to bet; their training and the operator's licence conditions both forbid it.
Tipping: know the local custom
Some live platforms include a tip button, and in that case using it is entirely at your discretion — UK players have no cultural obligation either way, unlike at some land-based tables in the United States. Never feel pressured by tipping talk in chat, and be aware that a tip buys goodwill only in the human sense: it has no effect on cards, wheels or anything else the equipment decides.
Leaving: no ceremony required
Closing the stream mid-shoe is normal and expected — seats at most tables are unlimited or turn over constantly, and nobody's game depends on your presence. If you have chips on the roulette layout, let the spin resolve first; unresolved bets settle automatically, but watching it land avoids any doubt. A quick goodbye in chat is a nice touch at a talkative table, nothing more.

- Talk to the dealer the way you would face to face — they can hear you, and everyone else can too.
- Decide within the timer most hands; use solo formats when you want to think.
- Ask rule questions before betting, and never ask for betting advice.
- Treat the tip button as optional everywhere, because in the UK it is.
